Burgess Lea

Isaiah Paxson Farm Bucks County, PA

The 37 acre farm, recently known as Burgess Lea, is located near New Hope on the Delaware river.

The house and 9 stone outbuildings are bordered by 300 acres of preserved land. There are open fields and an orchard on the property.

The farm was entered onto the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The wording in the nomination document suggests that the date of construction might be 1785. There are primitive outbuildings and a smaller section of the home that suggest a significantly earlier date. One of the outbuildings, a low, long, primative structure, currently used as a garage, was once a jail.
